Let's Go Yankees!

This was another one of my favorite presents I gave out this year.  This one was for my little brother, who like me, is a die hard Yankee fan.  This was made by building up layers, just like I made the letters for my BBSALT girls

Layer 1 (from bottom up): base
Layer 2: Everything minus negative space
Layer 3: Everything minus negative space and baseball laces
Layer 4: Everything minus negative space, baseball laces, and white in hat,

and so on and so forth... taking away more and more mat board until the last layer is the word Yankees and the baseball wood grain.

The logo measures about 10 inches in diameter and is made of 6 layers.

HAPPY NEW YEARS!
SEE YOU IN 2010!!

2 in 1 Day!?

I actually drew these two on Sunday night, but just got around to scanning and posting them!

I was cartooning and watching "All About Steve"... overall it was ok.  Not too impressed.

This one is foreshadowing something... ::wink::

The House that Bern Built

This was the pride of my projects this year.  I have been wanting to make 1/4" scale model of the house I grew up in, the house my dad built, the house where my parents still live, for a few years now.  So I decided if I was going to do it, I was going to do it right, and go all out (continued at the bottom)

The shingles were cut individually, and the shingles were layered on, there are shutters, and window casings, the window panes are divided up by string, the front and back door have the storm door, and the screen door... with "glass" and all.  There are handles on the garage doors, and steps at the front and back door.

This project too much longer than I anticipated, but it was TOTALLY worth it.  I love how it turned out :)

BBSALT

I created these 5"x5" boxes for five of my best friends. We call our selves BBSALT... corny, but deal with it.  It's easier than saying Brianna, Bernadette, Sam, Angela, Long, and Teresa.  So I arranged all our initials and built them up using 1/16" white mat board (a common material in all my presents this year).

Starting from the bottom, the first layer is the base
The second layer is the boarder plus b, b, s, a, l, t
The third layer is the boarder plus b, b, s, a, l
The fourth layer is the boarder plus b, b, s, a
so on and so forth.

Each girl got a different arrangement and sizing of the letters.  I will eventually do one for me.... one day.

B is for Birthday

I am going to kick of the week of presents I made with one of the first ones I gave out.  I created this 3-D letter B that is doodled on all sides.  It stands about 8 inches high, and 1.5 inches thick.  It was a present for my cousin Brianna for her birthday in November.  I thought it would be a cute touch to put her name on the trunk of the 'B' in raised white letters.

C-Day (eve)

Well it's Christmas Eve... and I gave out 5 presents last night to my best friends, Brianna, Sam, Long, Angela and Teresa.  They really liked what I made them (even though when they asked how I had some trouble explaining it.

I did not finish all 12 presents :(  I have 2.5 left... so only 9.5 got done.  The 3 unfinished have been started, and have a decent amount done, but nothing I can manage to fit in today before present time.  The 1/2 comes from one of the presents... which have two very distinctly separate pieces... so I can say i got 9.5 done :P.  I REALLY would like to finish the other 3 before New Years!

Look for pictures of everything next week!!!

5 Days!!

5 Days Until Christmas!
(well technically 4, my family exchanges presents not from "Santa" on Christmas Eve)

3 days until Christmas with my best friends aka BBSALT
6 days until Christmas with my boyfriend

One more present down!!!!!  3 more to go!!!

In addition to finishing up some presents tonight, I have to edit that tshirt design I did for my uncle to get printed for my cousin for Christmas, and start another one for the same uncle, but for a different cousin.

The tshirt I did for my sister and has been printed!!  I should be getting a shirt in the next week, so I'll post that once I get it.  I'm super excited to see it!!  I haven't designed tshirt since college.  I did about 10 between my sorority and the school senate.

Don't forget to check my blog between Christmas and New Years, for entries and pictures about what I have been working on for the past 2 months!

11 Days

11 Days Until Christmas!
(well technically 10, my family exchanges presents not from "Santa" on Christmas Eve)

8 days until Christmas with my best friends aka BBSALT
12 days until Christmas with my boyfriend

The presents I have finished so far look really great.  I couldn't be happier with them!  In addition to presents this weekend, I also did a new tshirt design for my uncle to get printed for my cousin for Christmas, and I finished up the tshirt design for my sister.  I did more than I could ever imagine on one present yesterday, and I another is taking a bit more work than I anticipated.

While most artists take a break from art and their blog between Christmas and New Years, you guys can anticipate a blog everyday with pictures of what I have been working on for every waking moment the past 2 months straight!

The latest and greatest

I finished my 7th present last night!!  Woohoo!  The rest are on the difficult side, so I hope I get them done in time before my fingers are raw!  At least I am not bringing home work from work to do at night, and I can actually work on my presents.

7 Done
4 Prepped & started
1 Not started

In just a few short days I will be able to share what I've been working (so very hard) on!

Tonight I have to take a break from Christmas presents and finish up the tshirt design for my sister.

22 Days

I finished present #6 of 12 last night!!  I'm really happy with it, it came out just how I imagined (which rarely happens!).  For my remaining presents:  4 are started, 1 is prepped, and 1 is still just an idea.  I made a list of what I need to do for each project, and it can be a little overwhelming at times, but at least I'm not standing in front of my art desk (anymore) saying "Uhhhhh what do I do next".

Time to go into overdrive!!!

3 Balloons

I just got back from dropping off my boyfriend at the train station yesterday evening, and 3 balloons caught in the power lines caught my eye.  I ran inside to get my camera, and much to my disappointment I was only able to get one picture in before my battery died!!!! UGH, I should have charged it after my extensive shooting 2 weekends ago!  Oh well, the one photo I did manage to get isn't that bad.

Busy on the inside

So despite of my lack of blog postings, I have been working VERY hard.  I finished 4 out of my 12 presents (yes that number grew from 11 to 12), and I have 4 others in progress, 3 more have been concept-ed and prepped but not started, and 1 is still up in the air.  I also have a side project designing a tshirt for my sister's college club, due December 1st.

In addition to being very creative at home, I have been doing a lot at work for two clients in NYC.  It will be really great to see them done and see people interacting and reacting with/to my work.

I'll post all my presents after the recipients have gotten them, so you can see what I've been working so hard on!

::Whew:: I'm exhausted!

Small town sunsets

Here is one of my last pictures from the weekend before last.  Thank goodness for keeping my tripod in my car for unexpected awesome sunsets like this one!

The only thing that I do need a shutter remote... I lost half of my shots because my hand shook the camera after releasing the shutter.

On a side note I have 4 of my 11 Christmas presents done... not too bad until SOMEONE reminded me that Christmas is 40 days away!!  EEK!  I have to get cracking

Lights Across the Water

I took some pictures in the FREEZING cold on Friday night.  The moon was really big and clear, but of course I don't have a big enough lens to get that sort of a detail.  But I still like the way the moon and the lights from the building reflect on the water.

Ground for Sculpture

On Saturday afternoon, I went to the Ground for Sculpture in Hamilton, New Jersey with 3 of my favorite ladies.  I took 120 photos there, and this includes stalking a peacock... don't ask. haha.  This photo is one of my favorites and I took it just as we entered the grounds.

Beautiful NJ

See NJ is beautiful!  Another photo from Sunday's pumpkin picking/corn maze experience.

This photo is from the middle of the corn maze.  There was a bridge so you can see where you are and where you need to go.

I joking aside, I really do love New Jersey, and in a weird bizarre way Newark's lights look pretty at night driving in from rt. 22.  And the big plant on the turnpike by exit 13 looks really cool with the sun setting behind it.  Maybe it's just me...

Another way to get the same result

I hope you remember my last post with the white cut-out doodle on black board, well I decided to do he same doodle again but reverse.  This time I would discard the positive space and would leave behind the white negative space.  So I did, tada!  It basically has the same effect as if I just doodled with black marker on a white board.

I want to create 2 more to make a collection; black positive space on a white board, and black negative space on a white board.... but they will have to wait.  Christmas was 2 months from yesterday and I think I have to start on Christmas presents... 11 of my closest family and friends will be receiving some sort of handmade gift from me.  I am pretty sure I'm already behind!

I also repopulated my Etsy site yesterday, so feel free to take a gander.

Another one bites the dust

I know I've been a little MIA again the past week, sorry.  I have been working very hard on this single project, and finally finished last night.  It is an inverse doodle... but instead of a marker, I cut alllllllllll those shapes out of paper.  It was very tedious... and the swirls weren't easy.

Enjoy!

PS I probably will do something easier tonight.

Tools of the Trade

I bought this shirt from Threadless.com a few weeks ago.  They were holding a $9 shirt sale on 9.9.09.  The shirt is entitled "Tools of the Trade".  I really liked it since I used different kinds of pencils and markers for my art.

A rose by any other name

I was a bridesmaid in a wedding last weekend for my sorority sister Christina (I posted the card I made for her and Joe earlier this week).  I still have my bouquet in water and I really liked how the white rose is opening up, so I decided to take pictures.

Although the white rose is opening up, the edges where it was crushed a little are turning brown.  I'll have to go back in and touch it up in photoshop.

2 in a row!

I recently printed out some pictures for a friend.  The thing is they don't fit in the normal small envelopes I use for stationary.  But they did fit in a larger envelope I have (the size of a half sheet of paper)... and by fit I mean float around loosely.  So I made this picture holder card for the photos so they didn't float around in the envelope.  It turned out to be a bigger art project than I anticipated, but it was something artsy none-the-less.

Happy Friday!

Happy October!

I apologize for being really inconsistent... if you are up to hearing my excuse: work has been busy and my life has been even busier!  So here is one from the archives... I AM going to draw tonight... even if I have to stay up later.

This was a project for my design fundamentals class in college.  We had to incorporate 2 images representing opposites into the same graphic.  I chose a bat to represent dark and a dove to represent light.  We had to use 3 colors; black, white, and another of our choosing.  If you look closely you can see a sun and a moon incorporated into the graphic as well.

Congrats Christina & Joe Marino!

I recently made this card for a very good friend's wedding.  She's a fan of my work and my blog, so I though I'd show my appreciation by making something special for her.

I tried to do a "double layer" doodle, but it didn't come out quite like how I wanted.  I wish the pencil doodle in the background came out a little darker so you could see it through the marker doodle outline better.

I wish the newlyweds the best on their honeymoon and for the many years to come!  Congratulations again!!

I've got it cover-ed

I bought this large sketch book about a year ago just for my doodles, I started doodling on the front with a silver marker pen.  I JUST finished.  I wouldn't call it being lazy, I didn't like how I started, so I just didn't finish it... and I still don't like how it turned out.  Oh well, at least it's done.

The back cover is still blank... hmmmm

I also realized the sketch a day for 100 days isn't something I want to continue, I don't plan on doing many still life drawings... maybe a few paintings.... but I think I should focus on my doodling.  That's something I love and something I'd enjoy doing everyday.  So I'm going to focus on that instead.

Weekend Sketches

Ok so I missed Friday's sketching... you caught me.  But here is Saturday (left) and Sunday (right).  It's coming along slowly... I am definitely not at 30 minute sketches yet... these have been taking longer.  Maybe I have to stop picking hard things (like the back of the chair and the perspective of the coffee cup).

PS Last week's "Montana brochures" joke was a Brian Regan joke.

New Shirts

I got these two new shirts from shirt.woot! The top one is "Tooney Fish" haha get it, tuna fish. It's kind of mean... it shows patrick, sponge bob, squidward, ariel, ursula, mr crab, nemo and the yellow fish from Ariel i can't remember the name of, all dead in a can of tuna fish. But I thought it was a funny play on words.

The second one is a girl doodling at her desk at school... very VERY fitting.

I did do my daily sketches, I'll post a bunch of them tomorrow!
