A twist on an old favorite

This USED to be my adidas doodle... but I drew (and by drew I mean traced) most of the original doodle, left out the logo, and I am now filling it in.

I am redoing this doodle for the juried art show I mentioned earlier this week.

Green Tomatos

I took a picture YEARS ago (2002 or earlier) of a few red tomatoes on an otherwise dying plant. It turned out to be one of my favorite pictures.

I went to my parents house last weekend I took a few pictures. I got really excited when I saw my dad's tomato plants and hoped to recreate the old tomato picture I took... much to my dismay there were only green tomatoes!!!! Boo. But I still took pictures anyway:

"Forgotten Childhood"

I did this painting in the same class I did the painting from my last post. Our teacher set up a still life of run down drab things. It was our challenge to make an interesting composition and painting.

The last painting was 2'x2'... this one is 4'x4'. Needless to say it's quite large, I don't personally have it, my parents have it hanging in their stairwell... it's the only place that doesn't dwarf the wall and look awkward.

My favorite part of the painting is the shoe

All the world's a stage

I have mornings and weekends free with my 12-8 work schedule, and the Art Center of Northern New Jersey is literally right down the street so I was looking at classes when I ran across a call for entries for a juried art show. I haven't done an art show since the photography one in February, I figure it's time to put myself out there again.

I know I do a lot of doodles and things, but I have a lot of projects I am still working on, and other projects I don't think are worthy (they dont allow all pieces into the show... hence the juried part)

I am going to enter the below painting I did in my painting class senior year of college... and the Washington Square Arc drawing.

A tease...

I did almost all of this doodle panel in one night a few weeks ago... i know it's not done but it was enough to share!

(this panel displays to the directly to the left of doodle panel 2)

Enjoy your Saturday!!

**UPDATE!**
I was looking at my blog after I posted my original blog (3 minutes ago) and I FIGURED IT OUT! I figured out how to finish my painting!! I figured out the missing piece to make it all look uniform and equal! Wooohoo!!

Now if only I was back at my apartment where my paints and canvas is located... oh well. The pool at my parents house will have to do for today, I can paint tomorrow.

i LOVE Shoes

This project was an assignment for my painting 1 class in the fall of senior year of college. The assignment was to paint a still life from a birds eye view. While the rest of the class chose fruits and pumpkins, I chose SHOES (after failing at fruit... twice) ! Needless to say I never finished attempt #3...

I kept the photo I took of my favorite shoes (at the time). I started working on it again around the holidays, and again last night.

I have to say my favorite is the brown Birkenstock clog (my favorite to wear and paint). And they honestly do look that worn/wrinkly and discolored! Though the dark black spot on the top is supposed to be/going to be a shadow... dont' mind it for now...

The pink shoe was a nightmare... I kept the second attempt, though I should have done it last since it's on top. I learned that later on when I did the two tiny pieces of shoe in the left hand corner.

A few (happy) steps forward

I couldn't leave an (almost) white canvas hanging on my wall, so I worked on it for a good portion of yesterday. And ta-da. Now I have to figure out what's going in the rest of the white area... I did take out 2 smaller elements i had left in there last week.

I'm not admitting defeat with this painting, but i am struggling to figure out what to fill the rest of the white space with... i have since I started this painting. I don't want whatever colors I put there to look like a background... I want everything to look like its their for a reason, like everything is working together and equal.

hmmmm...

Paint swirls in water

I was painting again last night and I saw the paint swirling in the water when i rinsed off my brushes. I pulled out my camera, and staged a few shots. This one was definitely the best!

Have a great weekend!!

Another 2 steps back...

I got looking at my painting last night... and i realized I didn't like parts of it.... most parts. So I got out my white paint and went to town....

I'll have to fix it this weekend when I'm stuck in my apartment on call and working.

My goal this weekend is also to FINISH one project...

Have a great weekend!!

I'm back!!

I know it's been awhile... my work hours moved back 3 hours (12-8pm) and I'm having a little trouble adjusting to them. I have to cook my breakfast, lunch, and dinner before work, and when I get home, it's just about bed time. Even though I haven't had time to post, I have done a little bit of art work!

I made this birthday card for my boyfriend for his birthday, and a few other people got it too. I figured I created one last year or the year before birthdays... i figure I'll make a new one every year!

Happy Birthday Sara Beth!!

Adieu

One last shot as I was pulling out of my parking space on 23rd Street and waiting to turn on to Avenue C. The elevated highway in the frame is the FDR Drive... the road that takes me home!
