Ponte Vecchio

Ponte Vecchio, Florence, Italy
Marker on paper
2003

Ok... 2003... so this isn't exactly a recent work, but i unearthed it a few days ago, and it remains one of my favorite sketches. I worked on it during my lunch break YEARS ago when I was an intern at an architecture firm, Ford, Farewell, Mills and Gatsch Architects, LLC, in Princeton, New Jersey. I drew it on the back of a scrap piece of paper (plans to a project at the time). I used a picture as a reference... looking at it makes me want to travel the world!!! One day...

"The Ponte Vecchio is a bridge built of wood at this crossing point in 977 was destroyed by fire in 1117, and the next bridge collapsed in 1333. The current Ponte Vecchio is unique in appearance and dates from 1345. Lined with multi-story buildings, the stone bridge is famous for the jewelry stores on both sides of its walkway. Above the shops a long corridor crosses the bridge and links the Galleria degli Uffizi with the Palazzo Pitti, the palace turned museum."

Not traditional, but still VERY cool!

My cousin found this link and sent it to me. The artwork isn't traditional, but still VERY cool!:

"from Smashing Magazine:
40 Stunning and Creative Graffiti Artworks

Graffiti represents an art form that is unrestricted, one that rebels against conventional forms of artwork. Graffiti is intertwined into human history, dating back to the Roman Empires where they were plastered onto walls to make political statements and satirize current events.

Modern graffiti achieves many of the same things - to state a message that doesn’t necessarily fit into the norms of society. In this collection, for your inspiration and adoration, we present 40 remarkable graffiti and street artwork.

This article follows and adds to an article written last year, entitled Tribute To Graffiti: 50 Beautiful Graffiti Artworks."

Customize your Puppy!

I am working on a bunch of projects, none of which are worth writing home about yet. But in the spirit of keeping up the blog (something I haven't done so well recently), I thought this picture was SO CUTE and after all, art related.

A throne fit for a king!

So since moving into my own place (yay, i'm still super excited about it) I get to decorate any way I want!! So I dug up a "throne" I made in high school. Rewind... so for a midterm/winter break project for my Art 2 class senior year of high school we had to make a throne for a specific (famous) artist. And since I was still stuck in my Vincent Van Gogh obsession (he's still cool, but not my all time favorite), I chose him.

I LOVED the end result... others (who will not be named) in my household didn't, and the chair was stored in the attic for 6 LONG years. It is back, and fits perfectly in an empty corner of my apartment! YAY!

I got the chair from a used furniture/antique store... (trust me, this chair was the first one), covered it in spackle (piece by piece) and carved swirls and lines in the wet spackle to mimic the heavy body paint Van Gogh used for his paintings. I also chose blues and yellows, two colors he used frequently.

Finally I reupholstered the seat with canvas (since he painted on canvas), painted on his first name and tada! My throne was complete!! It's not functional... but is my first piece of 3D "sculpted" art. I was proud of it then, and I am still quite fond of it now.

A New Post!!!

I have been working on a present for a friend, so haven't had much time for other doodles... no doodles, no posts, BUT with that done, I have started a new doodle, or should I say pattern. I got a new bed spread over a year ago, and it's a very faint pattern... it has intrigued me for over a year:

So I finally decided to reproduce it. So I guess it's not an original doodle, but cool and creative none the less.

PS. I am not done, just working from the inside out. And as usual you can click on any image to make it bigger!

Done-zo!

YES!!!!! FINALLY!!! It's all done!! I submitted it to the Adidas art contest sponsored by deviantArt a few minutes ago.

As much as I wanted to be finished with this project, it is a 100% certainty that I will finish this blog and doodle in my sketchbook in bed. haha.... I can't get enough!

Have a great weekend all!

T-minus 13 hours...

So I am REALLY happy with how this is turning out. I just have a few small details to finish up but it's due at 11:59pm TONIGHT! Eeek!

The logo looks weird right now, but I still have to make it white/black... that shouldn't be too hard. it will definitely pop when I do.... Hopefully it doesn't over power the color... hmm. I'm sure I'll figure it out!

Cool Artist

I have been so busy working on the adidas project, I haven't had a chance to do much else. it's at a weird stage so I'm not going to post it yet, but I did see this really cool video on BBC News about British artist Banksy. He has opened his first official exhibition in New York. Set inside a fake pet store, works such as a robotic monkey and fish-fingers swimming in a goldfish bowl aim to question the relationship between human beings and animals.

A dash of color!

I'm just working on the colors... so don't judge it! But I am experimenting with two options:

1. dark/vibrant background and light lines
2. light background and dark/vibrant lines

either way I am going to fill the doodle with mid tones.... hopefully I will have an answer for you tomorrow!

Stay tuned!

Adidas is done...almost!

I am excited! I finished my Adidas doodle! It came out a lot better than I imagined and predicted. I am happy with it and definitely won't redo it.

But.............. I have A TON of photoshopping to on it to make it look the way I want it to before I can enter it. I have to add color and make all the black different colors. Daunting...
