There was a torrential down pour on Saturday (and Friday as well), but this time there was an amazing rainbow afterward! The colors of everything were so from the rain and setting sun.

NEW!
I made a 2 trips in 2 days to the local Pearl Paint store, and I got some new supplies (and NOTHING is better than new supplies).
I got:
- my first moleskin!! (it has storyboard layouts, great for my purse when i think of a new comic and I'm not at home)
- new comic pens (one being a brush tip... I'm really excited about it!)
- a set of 4 french curves (also a first... how I made it through 1.5 years of architecture school without them is beyond me)
- 2 blue non-photo blue pencils (it's a comic thing)
- pencil topper erasers (yes... the kind you get in elementary school)
- 12" ruler (I was in dire need for one)
- Illustration board (for my doodle panel wall... links to panel 1 and panel 2)

Experimentation...
More comics... this one is from my second day at work
After I scanned it and was fixing the brightness and contrast in photoshop (thank you crappy scanner) I decided to experiement and add color! It's nothing spectacular... but this was the first time I was trying it:

Random Musings
I was going to blog about a few things.... but now I can only remember one.
My Adidas doodle wasn't chosen as one of the 50 semi-finalists :( But the ones that were chosen are pretty good, feel free to check them out here
I'll blog again tonight if I remember what else I wanted to say... probably nothing important.
**UPDATE**
NOW I remember what else I wanted to blog about... and it was important (at least to me).
I've been drawing and sketching and doodling for awhile now, and like all artists I have sketchbooks... BUT I have NEVER filled one up! And I feel like less of an artist for not doing so (maybe a slight exaggeration). But it is a goal of mine... a BIG goal... something I MUST do before I die!
Unfinished Sketchbook Count: 6 (7 if you count the spiral drawing pad I do all my comics in)

In It's Entirety
I scanned part of this for one of my Valentine's Day posts, but my scanner was being difficult so I couldn't piece together the whole thing. So here it is... in one piece, as I created it.

Hourly Comic
A few of the artists whose art blogs I read, completed a project called hourly comics. They drew one comic (2 panels) every hour. I decided to try it, I lasted 10 hours... real comics do it all day, everyday for a month!! Eeek! Maybe one day...
Sorry my comics are weird shades of gray... I really need a new scanner!! (and the energy to photoshop them!)

MOCCA Festival 2009
I went to MOCCA (Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art) Art Festival yesterday!! Let me say (besides being hot as hell) I LOVED IT! There were SO many talented artists and illustrators! I got to see my favorite, Lucy Knisley. I knew her table number but the tables weren't numbered, just as i pulled out my map to check and see where she was in relation to where I was standing, Al nudged me. I looked up and realized I was standing right in front of her table! This is going to sound super corny, but I was star-struck. I haden't visited any other tables yet, so I browsed the table next to hers until I got the courage to say hi. I might have even told her I'm a big fan. Haha! (I know I'm a dork) I got to talk to her for awhile, she was so nice!!
With a smile plastered to my face I moved on to other booths, but honestly I only went to see/meet her. The other highlight of my time at MOCCA was when I went to the Comics Bakery booth. There was an artist there named Raina Telgemeier. Her style is similar to Lucy's, clean, comical, and about normal everyday things (sorry no superheros). What I found cool was she takes Baby-sitters Club Books (if you were a girl in the 90's you know EXACTLY what series I'm talking about) and she illustrates them in graphic novel format! I thought that was so cool... totally brought me back!! I read all those books (multiple times) when I was younger, and watched the movie, and had the board game.
Here are the links for all the tables I grabbed a card from:

Organization is key!
So I got this great art desk awhile back from my Dad... but the problem was that I didn't use it as much as I would like. It was too cluttered for my border line OCD organizational nature. So I got 2 "wall ledges" from Target, and put some of my "in progress" and completed works on the wall (as motivation... and to get them off the desk) and TADA!
Yes... I'm fully aware there are currently 5 projects on my desk... I am a work in progress. I am going to attribute it to being overly ambitious... haha

Two steps forward, one step back.
To enjoy my last day off I decided to paint. The goal was to fill all the white space so next time I paint I can go in with skinnier lines and details. No such luck, I didn't like some of the brown areas I created before I knew where this painting was going, so I painted them over with white. Oh well... maybe next time I will finish the under painting. On a more positive note, when I was painting the blue I was using more detail... so there is a step in that direction!
(sorry for the weird picture angle... there was a glare from the flash)

It's as easy as riding a bike
This is one of my favorite photos. I took in on the Rutgers Newark Campus during a "field trip" for my digital photography class senior year. I also had to write a fictional short story to accompany the photo It was about an old man who left the bike, and he died in his home and no one knew. It was a funny story because it started out happy, but twisted into this dark, depressing, lonely story. I remember reading it out loud and by the end I was laughing so hard, my teacher had tears in his eyes from laughing so hard.
I'll be the first to admit my writing skills aren't so great... some people know that more than others. My words sound good in my head, but get jumbled when they come out. Occasionally they do come out well... but that's because I slaved over them. Oh well, at least I can draw a picture of what I'm trying to say. Haha!
Writing is one career I can cross of my list....

Boxes and slats
This is a really cool drawing I found in my attic recently. It was from a project freshman year of college, 2003. I can't remember it enough to explain it, but it involved boxes suspended in a 1x1 foot cube and slats encasing it like a prison. The pencil drawing was a view from inside my physical model made out of chipboard and plexi-glass.

4 Score and 5 Years Ago
So it shouldn't be a surprise by now that I don't have the greatest attention span when it comes to big projects. I started this in 2004 during my sophomore year of college (back when I was an architecture student). I recently unearthed it during my move in March, and I am really going to finish it!! Soon....

Colors of the wind
Yea so this isn't really wind, but I somehow got the Pocahontas "Colors of the Wind" song stuck in my head, so we are going to go with that.
I started this last summer (white and colored pencil on black paper), and never got around to finishing it... it says 2008 on it... I really need to learn not to sign a project before its done. haha.

Progress
So I only blogged 12 times in May... that's not good! I need to step up my game!!! So here is my bedspread pattern I am working on. It's getting hard now... its not the concentric shapes anymore. It's more random, but I love a challenge! The challenge is to also blog over 20 times, and to go to the beach more this summer... but that's besides the point.
Happy Monday!!
